HDL (high-density lipoprotein), or “good” cholesterol, absorbs cholesterol and carries it back to the liver. The liver then flushes it from the body. High levels of HDL cholesterol can lower your risk for heart disease and stroke.

USAGE: HDL cholesterol is referred to as the “Good Cholesterol”. This test is used to assess the risk of Coronary artery disease (CAD) and diagnosis of various lipoproteinemias. It is inversely related to the risk of CAD. For every 1 mg/dL decrease in HDL risk of CAD increases by 2–3%.
