HCV antibody test is used to find out if someone has ever been infected with the hepatitis C virus. The HCV antibody test, sometimes called the anti-HCV test, looks for antibodies to the hepatitis C virus in blood.

SPECIMEN: 2 mL (1 mL min.) serum from 1 SST. Ship refrigerated or frozen.

PRE-TEST INFORMATION: No special preparation required.

USAGE: HCV is the most common cause of Post transfusion hepatitis. HCV antibodies usually appear in the late convalescent stage >6 months after onset of infection. This assay is the screening test for resolved or chronic HCV.
