This test is performed on stools to check the range of movement of organisms, such as bacteria. It is conducted to identify Pseudomonas infection and to monitor the treatment of the infection.
SPECIMEN: 5 mL (3 mL min.) stool in a leak-proof screw capped container. Specimen must reach LPL within 1 hour of collection at room temperature.

USAGE: Cholera is an acute diarrheal disease that can lead to rapidly progressive dehydration and death in a matter of hours. Causative agent is Vibrio cholerae which has >200 serogroups but serogroups O1 to O139 have epidemic potential. Cholera is native to the Ganges delta in India.
