The test is used to diagnose the cause of red blood cells destruction (hemolytic anemia); to investigate a blood transfusion reaction; to diagnose hemolytic disease of the newborn.

SPECIMEN: 3 mL (1 mL min.) Whole blood in 1 Lavender Top (EDTA) tube. Ship refrigerated. DO NOT FREEZE.

USAGE: Direct Coombs test detects IgG and Complement bound to erythrocytes. The test is useful in diagnosing patients with haemolytic disease of the newborn and Autoimmune Haemolytic Anemia. Drug induced antibodies may give false positive reactions.
