This test measures the amount of creatine kinase (CK) in the blood. CK is a type of protein, known as an enzyme. It is mostly found in your skeletal muscles and heart, with lesser amounts in the brain. Skeletal muscles are the muscles attached to your skeleton. They work with your bones to help you move and give your body power and strength. Heart muscles pump blood in and out of the heart.
SPECIMEN: 2 mL (1 mL min.) serum from 1 SST. Haemolysed specimens are not acceptable. Ship refrigerated or frozen.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Nil
USAGE: Elevated levels of CK-MB occur 4 to 6 hours after the onset of pain in myocardial infarction, peak at 18 to 24 hours and persist upto 72 hours. It may also be elvated in cases of Carbon monoxide poisoning, Pulmonary embolism, Hypothyroidism, Crush injuries and Muscular dystrophy.
