Clot Retraction Time

100.00

Clot retraction time measures the amount of time taken for the clot to retract from the sides of a glass container and is dependent upon normal platelet count and function. Clot retraction normally takes between 1-2 hours. This is a very crude test and is not commonly used.

SPECIMEN: 5 mL whole blood in a special graduated tube available from LPL.
STABILITY: Room: NA; Refrigerated: NA; Frozen: NA
REPORT: Daily
USAGE: Clot Retraction is the shrinking ability of a clot which signals that repair & healing is happening in the body. Normal clot retraction time is 0-2 hours. Platelets play an important role to initiate this process. It is directly proportional to the platelet count and inversely proportional to the fibrinogen concentration.
